THANK YOU!!! THIS ALSO FIXED IE8...

This not only fixed WMP on my Vista laptop that went bad today but also fixed Internet Explorer on it as well. A couple months ago, I kept getting this "Internet explorer has stopped working" message & IE8 would not start up. I started using Chrome instead but now IE works!

IE8 went bad after I installed a video editing program but once I uninstalled it, it still wouldn't open. Before, I tried all sorts of fixes & scanned my computer for viruses but nothing worked. It wouldn't let me uninstall, reinstall, or downgrade the version either. It's nice peace of mind to have things working again rather than having both a broken WMP & IE!!!

This problem occurs if use a Text Editor which supports another Character Encoding which has not been defined in your website's either language/languagename.php or other page wherever you have defined Character Encoding type. To overcome this problem you just need to write your code that support the character encoding type. eg earlier I was using Dreamweaver, later I used Microsoft Expression Web the problem start occuring. I just replaced the file written in Dreamweaver, the problem was solved..
